I know...I know...I have read all the posts, I am one of the unlucky ones. I had a 5/16" unit and went to the aftermarket 3/8". I bought two new Mopar gaskets and the fuel ring wrench to make it simpler.

I crawled underneath today to check the unit and sure enough the O-gasket was rippled at the top and sticking out past the flange. I removed it (the chinese one came out) the Mopar one went back in. I tighten it down and the same thing is happening. Ripple at the 12 o'clock.

I'll try to oil it up a little and hopefully pass the problem but...is there any sealant I can put on it to make a more snug fit? Form-a-Gasket? I dont think its fuel inert.

I am going to try to straighten the pickup tube UP a little, might be hitting the bottom of the tank and causing the flange to sit incorrectly.

Any ideas?

im with ya,what is up with the aftermarket sending units?cant anyone produce one that is quality? from the gasket to the out of calibration.you would think in this day and age it would be very easy to reproduce a good piece.

I got it to seal...Put a little oil on it and cranked it down...went out for a spin...I ended up calling my friend to deliver fuel to me....put 2 gallons in and the needle comes up to the 1st mark on the gauge (empty). I get to a gas station and put 8 more in...still reads empty....came home put another 4 gallons from a gascan....so you'd think almost full right? still on the first line....and this gauge cluster has been restored, my grounds are all on correctly....whats a POS sending unit

You do have a ground on the sending unit hooked up?

I dremeled off the zinc coating and soldered a #10 wire soldered to the fuel outlet pipe, and then ran that straight to the subframe, cleaned the subframe with a wire brush on the dremel to bare metal and have an eyelot terminal screwed there and put hot glue over the connection to keep it from corroding...After that was done...for good measure, I tightened down a small hose clamp over the solder job I had done on the outlet pipe....

I came to the conclusion that I am going to buy a sending unit from Autometer, cut off the sending unit float apparatus and weld it to my existing aftermarket unit. I doubt highly that the Autometer Universal part will fit properly in my tank, but the float assy. will.

I'll run the autometer fuel gauge above my console with the other 4 gauges. I had the fuel gauge in my Dart for YEARS and it never let me down.

Thats the only fix I can see for this junk they sell now
