Big Block 350 - 10/26/08 07:42 PM

I just picked up a big block 350, Super Red Ram engine. Is there any real value to these engines? Thanks in advance.

A complete one (air cleaner to pan with exhaust) would make a novel conversation piece in my shop, next time I find one that will be it's fate. As far as usefulness? Restoring an original car that came with one just about sums that up, otherwise cubic inches rule. It was the first Chrysler "Big Block" a low deck engine starting at 350 cubes, later punched to 361, 383, and finally 400 cubes, all shared the same stroke, just different bore sizes.

The Raised deck wedge headed "Big Block" engines followed shortly after beginning as a 383 CID, then 413, then 426 (wedge) and finally 440, once again, they all shared the same 3.75" stroke, just different bore sizes.

Probably not for performance. It has a real small bore at 4.06" and probably wouldn't take enough of an overbore to do anything with it stroker-wise. You'd have to bore it .060" over just to get to 361 size. Might be worth something to a restorer.
