Sandblasting a fan clutch

Sandblasting a fan clutch - 03/15/12 04:17 AM

I have a fan clutch that works fine but doesn't look so good. I have tried cleaning it with solvents and a wire brush which has improved the appearance but it still doesn't look so nice, particularly in between the fins. I have been thinking about sandblasting it. I figure I can tape up the area where the shaft goes in the back of the housing to keep sand from getting in around where the seal is but I'm a little reluctant about blasting the area on the front side where the spring is as I can't see what is behind the spring. Is there any risk of ruining the clutch if I were to do this?

I cleaned mine with glass beads, there are seals on both sides. Try to get some eagle one mag cleaner its in a gray bottle and is for cast mag wheels, its the one with phosporic acid, it will chemically clean the fins. Tim
