Installing Duster doors

Installing Duster doors - 03/15/12 02:02 AM

I am in the process off switching from fiberglass doors to steel doors on my 70 Duster. The inside of the doors and the hinges are already painted. Is it easier to go ahead and mount the hinges to the door and then the body or is it easier to mount them to the body and then attach them to the door. Thanks for any thoughts on the best way of doing this. These crazy things are HEAVY.

The hinges should be on the body first. The door can be supported with a floor jack. I've used dowels in one of the lower 3 holes to steady the door.

Mount the hinges to the doors and then get lots of help if you want to save your paint.

I have done it supporting the door with a floor jack, but it's not the best way.

How do you get to the bolts with the HINGE in the way?
This may work with the fenders off. Otherwise, there is no room to reach the bolts with the fender in the way.
My way works.

Thanks for the tips guys. I can remove the front end on this car in about 3 minutes so I will keep that in mind. The car has a roll bar cage so that will probably be my hardest thing to work around.
