Magnum 5.9 Torque Converter & Weights Question - 03/02/12 05:57 PM

I have my weight kit, I have my template, I have the 94 318 torque converter (still in the Dak, but I have it.) Got a buddy who builds his own race cars so I think he can handle welding the weights to the converter but he did have a couple questions so I turn to Moparts to answer his questions, from his email...
"So I reviewed the instructions and the drawing and do not see a reason we couldn't do this per instructions. The thing I don't see is a method for checking the balance. So, we would either have to find a way to check the balance or just use the instructions as gospel and go with that. Your decision but I can def do this. Also--weld filler material does have a weight so maybe it isn't that critical cause you could add more filler material and change the weight couldn't you? Dunno."

Also there are two templates one for a large converter, one for a small converter. The Dakota is a 94 with a 318 and if the tranny is factory original then it is a 46RH which converter does it have? -BD

would it just be easier to get a 5.9L magnum flexplate? they're weighted from the factory and allow you to use a neutral balance converter.

All 46RH have the small (10 3/4") converter.
