1959-1962 318 4-bbl Engine Questions - 02/16/12 03:26 AM

I'm trying to find out what air cleaners were used on these 318 4-bbl engines. I imagine that the 1962 one was the typical small round unsilenced one like on other 4-bbl engines that year but what are other ones? My Fram filter book is hard to judge by because they lump a lot of engines together.

Also, were there 318 4-bbl engines in trucks?

Don't know what the air cleaners looked like.
As far as I know there were never 4-barrels on poly 318s in trucks. Those intakes are like gold and the 4-barrel cams are unobtanium.

I would dispute that the stock intakes have that much value. But I do agree that there were no 4-barrel poly intakes in trucks.

Picture of some of the Golden Commando air cleaners that i have collected.
The 395 is the torque figure of the engine, not the cubic inch.
Sure must have been confusing to everyone back in the day, and even today.

Even in ND you can look on the 'bay and see stock 318 poly 4-barrel intakes selling for $500 or so, the single quad intakes bring more than the dual quads, bare. And the Weiand 7503 sells for about the same or actually a little less.
So if you have a bunch of'em you can get rich, just send me one for the tip!

Buick used to do that. Must have been frustrating being a parts guy and arguing with people over what size engine they had. I know with my 440 Wagon peoeple get confused when I say it has a 318 so instead I ask for parts for a Polara.

As for those air cleaners, they're pretty cool. From what I can tell, only Plymouth used the decal. The Dodge version used mostly on police cars were blank.
