wiper gear repair- what epoxy to use? - 02/13/12 05:36 AM

I have been looking all over for a gear to replace the cracked one in my 65 New Yorker, but there are none available. The gear has absolutely no wear, since car was originally owned by a little old lady who obviously did not drive in the rain. It does, however, have a couple of cracks radiating out from the center post. They do not go out very far, looks like plastic shrinkage. Anyways, I figure the best way to repair it is to dremel out the crack with a small ball tool and fill it with epoxy. My question is what type of epoxy to use. This is a white plastic gear, very hard. Any ideas on this? Thanks- Pat

JB Weld - the miracle two-part epoxy.

search 'mopar wiper gear' in eBay - there are several single and variable speed gears for early & mid 60s cars - maybe one matches yours.

The gear is probably nylon, not sure anything will stick to that for long.

Email me a picture of your gear.
I may have one for you.
