HEADERS ON 70 CHALLENGER - 01/29/12 01:38 AM

THE QUESTION I HAVE IS, WHAT HEADERS ARE THE BEST FIT ON THIS CAR W/340. THE CAR HAS FLOW TEC HEADERS. THEY HANG LOW AND THE FLANGE BOTTOMS OUT OR DRAGS ON INCLINES. RAISED THE FRONT SOME AND THAT HAS HELPED. BUT STILL HANG TO LOW AND ONE SIDE APPEARS TO HANG LOWER. ANY IDEAS? WHAT IS THE PROPER HEIGHT ON THE FRONT END. THE FRONT WAS LOWERED AND THE ASS JACKED UP. THE REAR HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND THE FRONT RAISED A LITTLE BUT STILL LOOKS A LITTLE LOW.

spend $700.00 and get coated tti headers.very pricey, very good header.or dougs headers, they also are quality.or get $200 headers and cuss.

I have a 71 Challenger with a small block, and I have TTI headers on it. They fit good, and weren't hard to install from underneath. They have step tubes that start out as 1 5/8 and then go a foot or so and step up to 1 3/4. I don't think I have enough motor for headers like that, but they fit and work good. Another option is Dougs headers. Dougs headers have tubes that are 1 5/8 all the way to the collector, which would be better for a stock type motor. Like the TTI's that I have, there are no tubes hanging below the drag link....and that is what keeps them tucked up under the car where they should be. Neither brand is cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I have the TTi's on my 340 Challenger and they fit great. They were expensive to buy, but they fit snug to the bottom of the car.
Some cars that have the low hanging headers you can see them hanging down when walking up to look at that car. The TTi's you have to bend down and look under the car to see if that car has headers or not. I did have TTi send me the 6/7 degree angled reducers to make it all fit nice though. The below picture shows the stock reducers before the swap which makes the exhaust pipe go downward towards the ground too much for my liking.

This picture (too much light) shows the new reducers help tuck the exhaust back up.

What about Hookers i've run them they seem to be tucked up nice .I'd raise the front with the torsion bars or put a larger tire on steering would improve for a street car .

Hookers are overpriced, outdated junk.

hooker #5115 1 3/4" seem to fit these cars pretty good, have only seen one set installed but they looked good to me and wasnt as low hanging as the generic one design fits everything smaller 1 5/8" headers.

Always make sure that the motor mounts are in great shape, as well as the trans mount, you can lose some height there , not alot but some!
On my street header I ran On my duster back years ago, I did the unthinkable , and used a floor jack block of wood, and some heat,
I didn't go crazy, but it did work really well and it tucked them up nice and neat!

I've owned a set of Hooker Super Comps (5115)for an E-body. They fit ok, but the tubes are too big for a stock or mild motor. Larger tubes will kill low end torque. The next set of E-body headers I buy will be Dougs, unless I find another set of TTI's really cheap.
