2004 Ram 3500 Trailer turn signal /brake light problem - 01/28/12 12:03 AM

I have a 04 Dodge Ram 3500, Cummins.

The lights on the truck all work properly. Problem is with the trailer light circuit.

No trailer brake light or turn signal on the right side....Problem is NOT in the trailer. There is no power to the trailer light plug. I traced the wire all the way to the fuse box area...no problem with wiring.

Fuses are all good. The taillights are okay. Left side is okay...just no right trailer turn and brake light.

Reading on the internet, looks like there is a module??? that could be bad. I guess these trucks don't even have flasher units like the older ones do.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any ideas where this "module" is located? Cost? Any other ideas or "bandaids" that might work?

thanks!

Very similar problem with my '03 1500. Lost left brake light on the trailer only, everything else was fine and the trailer was fine. Ended up being the TIPM, they are internally fused and I had to take to a dealer for repair. Perform an internet search on Ram and TIPM, I think you will determine this is likely the cause. I hope the TIPM is not the failure because this is an expensive repair.

Good luck,
Steve

I had the same issue with 2006. And My "module" died while waiting at the drive thru for a donut at Dunkin Donuts Sunday morning with traffic backed up all the way onto the highway, pulling a dual axle 10,000lb generator. The owner said just push it out of the way. Right

And it was over $1000

Still haven't fixed the one on my 2004 since it has been down for 2 years. It is unbelievable that it would cost so much to fix it, but it does!
