Which ATI damper for 440 stock timing cover? - 01/18/12 09:30 PM
I'm looking at ATI's damper page and they list two dampers for the stock timing cover, part# 917471E and 917470E.
I'll be using my stock pulleys.
Which one do I buy?
Thanks, John

I don't think stock pulleys will work with any of the ATI dampers?

I just made the call to ATI's tech line just before closing at 5pm.
Part# 917470E is used with the stock OEM timing cover and pulleys.
Hopefully, that means the alignment with the other pulleys is maintained and not just the bolt circle.

Over the years they have made a pile of different versions --Maybe ask Kenny at Indy ( i know....)
We used to make a shim that went on crank snout to space ATI's out to fit Indy covers--the ID of the damper from them will need some honing to fit your crank --measure both and fix--they say tight is good but so tight it will not go on or welds itself on after brutal install is TOO tight--measure before you start to put it on--

Hey BSB67,
The damper came in today. It came in two parts.
Do the numbers on the parts look correct?
...parts like this can keep one on a beans & rice diet for a while.

Yes, but you have a quality piece that you don't have to worry about.
The damper assy is 917470, shell 7040, and hub 6661.
