dual carbs: eddy 1406's or OE 60's 4131 AFB's - 01/15/12 06:49 PM

Have both sets avail to be refurbished. Which set would you guys recommend I go w? 451 big block DD w mild cam. more interested in mileage/driveability than HP potential. Thank you for your time.

I would do the 1406's assuming equal throttle shaft tightness on both sets.

The 4131's are VERY loose on the shafts but I am going to have them rebushed and I can get a mate to my 1 current 1406 for cheap if I act FAST

Robert when fresh and jetted equally I doubt you'll notice any difference between them.

Scott good to hear from you. I went to the site you sent & they want over $200 canadian for the rebushing kit & iirc it has 8 bushings. You and a local guy who does them said it is a rarity to have to do them but these are LOOSE but that's MY subjective assessment. I should grab a dial indicator & shoot you a dimention. he's going to do em for $25 a shaft so I might have him do all 4 shafts (anal I know but they SEEM too loose) and I want good mileage/driveability and dont want to have to go back inside again

It's not so much the "looseness" you need to be concerned with, it's more about the shape of the holes. If egg shaped they are worn, if round they are probably fine. I rebush them all anyway so it's no matter to me. BTW, the EB is basically the same carb, however they did make a few design changes to the casting, one of the changes made makes the typical method of rebushing them impossible due to the length of the shaft/tube casting.

The eddy's being newer I'd assume they are OK but the 4131's are loose but yes I should have listened to the 2 experts (you being one of them) who said leave them alone

Does the 4131 have the vacuum controlled secondary air door? I know I bought a bunch of old AFB's to make hemi clones and one of them did not have an air door, can't remember if it was the 4131 or not. If no air door I wouldn't monkey with it.

No secondary air valve on the 4131.

Hemi AFB dual 4 setups did not have (or need) a secondary air door adjustment (AVS).

Scott: The carb I am talking about had secondary throttle blades and that's it. I'm well versed on Hemi carbs and differences from AFB's to AVS'.
