paint bumpers - 01/11/12 01:37 AM

I want to paint my bumpers on my duster until I can get them rechromed. Any advice would be helpful.

Scuff REALLY well with 80-120 grit, prefferably with a DA. Prime and Paint.

Its easy, but the key is to start with a GOOD scuff!

I have a paint and body shop, I just did my roadrunner I had them blasted then epoxy primer and paint.I think its good to let them cure out good before driving to help with chips.

If you want the paint to stay on, they only way to do it is blast, epoxy or etch prime then paint. Sanding chrome is like sanding glass and even with etching primer,it's not even close as blasted surface. I usually would blast and powdercoat, but that's for more permanent finish.I'm sure there are people who will say there is no need to blast or etch primer, but most guys who actually work in autobody industry will say otherwise, so it's upto you to make the right decision.
