A-Body Ball and Trunion A-833 Ratio Question - 12/28/11 10:42 AM

Hey Guys. Were only the A-Body Slant Six B&T trannys a 3.09 1st gear, or was it ALL A-body B&T transmissions?

Thanks!

As long as we're talking about A body ball and trunnion 4-speeds, I'd say all.

The 3.09 ratio is easy to identify. It has a groove around the front input shaft. There is a photo of one in the A-Body parts for sale. The trans also came in the hi-po 273 cars. You can take a long tailshaft 23 spline trans, install the gears and synchs from the 3.09 trans on the long tailshaft and bolt up the long tailshaft to the 3.09 front case. The 3.09 ratio first gear is what the pro stockers used to run back in the 60's

Yep...That was the question...pertaining only to A-body units, and it looks like RoadRunnerJD is in concensus with that. It kinda sucks...3.09 is kinda steep for what I'm building. Maybe I should go with 2.76's or 2.94's!
