2000 Dodge Intrepid Died while running.

Hey guys I could use some help here. My mother in law was driving on the highway 55 mph when the motor lost power and when she pulled over it wanted to die and not rev up. She tried to start it and it would start but does not stay running when you try to put it in gear. Last year I replace the battery and cleaned the cables to. I also replaced the starter at the same time. It has run fine till today. Anything I should look for? If I remember it has the 3.0 in it but I could be wrong.

Bang on the tank by the pump , see if it starts run , possible fuel pump

2000 would be the dreaded 2.7 or the less dreaded 3.2 or 3.5. My own 3.2 2000 intrepid went from running perfect, to barely running, but did make it 25 miles home in a matter of 1/2 hour when the fuel pump puked. Check eng light did not come on, and only clue I got was that funky lean smell before it quit rolling into driveway. Nice feature is fuel tank drain plug , by the way.

My wife had a 2000 LHS. She called me one day and said it just died going down the road. It showed 1/4 tank of fuel but was really empty Just a thought/

Yup, check fuel pressure.

Well I got to hear it run but it only runs on 4 or 5 cylinders at idle. You can give it gas and then it backfires on the passenger side bank of cylinders and then revs up. It seems to run all 6 then.
Could it be a bad coil or sparkplug? Yes it is the 2.7 motor with 160,000 miles on it. Tank is full of gas also.
So Iam going to pull the spark plugs and check the coils.

Well I put in plugs as the ones in there were really worn. There was not much left of the plugs, 1 plug was wet so I moved the coil to a different plug and it was wet also after I started it and let it idle. So I put a new coil in and it still runs bad, like 4 or 5 cyls at idle. And it makes a clattering sound on the passenger bank of cyls. I think it is icky inside that valve cover. So I just stopped working on it for now.
