Flywheel - 12/27/11 08:34 PM

I was planning on purchasing a new flywheel, specifically a RAM Automotive, part number 1503. I was going to purchase it from Summit. I would like to know your opinion on this specific part. Mine is stock, and I was told by an aquaintance that I need not only a billet steel flywheel, but also a blowproof bell housing. I have no plans on racing this car (1970 Duster with a 340 and 4-speed), but I certainly don't want any damage, either. My bell housing (stock aluminum) is in excellent shape, so I don't want to throw money at something I really don't need to.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

If you get the billet flywheel you will be safer than wit han old original cast wheel. the more worrisome part that can explode is the Presure plate so make sure you get a good one. Bellhousing is up to you , you don't have to be racing for the clutch to explode.

Are you sufficiently scared now ?

Yup!

Anyhow, the warning with the part on the Summit website says to not use this flywheel with a stock type clutch, as it may not have enough clearance at the flywheel bolts. I have a RAM stock type clutch. So, will they work well together, or not?
