Craigslist this time of year is a treasure chest full of toys to a car guy. Bought this 52 Dodge pickup for $400. All intact, rusty and has the original radio. Title was issued in 1959. I can get a running driving 2000 Dakota with a V-8 for $300 too. Also closing a deal on a 25 Chrysler project, cheap, that the owner says will run.

Good for you, well done. up

At time of this writing there were 34 views and no reply's so I am going to, not that I have a clue what I am talking about (I have a lot of company, mostly in Government, with that).

Are you going to use just the engine from the 2000 Dak? I am doing a Dakota sub frame (92) to '56 Plymouth frame and with out looking the year up (too lazy) the seconded gen Dakota's had a complete different front suspension etc.

For those who care (nobody) the "sweet spot" where the first gen Dakota and the '56 frames are almost identical is 18 inch's back of the front axle centre line.

Some of us are thankful the price for scrap has hit bottom. Now there is some old stuff we might be able to afford to buy without the scrappers sucking it up and getting it crushed.

The Dakota Chassis changed in 1997, then again around 2003 or 2004 (I haven't kept up with the new stuff, you know, the stuff only about 15 years old. LOL!)

I'm till stuck in the last century! My new project is a 39 Dodge 1/2 ton. It sitting on a 91 Dakota chassis and is getting a 97 360 Magnum, I have stepped up to the EFI, but this electronic speedometer is giving me fits. I'm also "upgrading" the 6 bolt pattern wheels to the older 5 bolt pattern wheels. Those 5 bolt hub/rotors are getting expensive these days.

Congrats on the new purchase. Those 51-53 were very popular Dodge trucks.

Chrysler Corp started production in 1924 with a revised Maxwell car. The 1924 and the 1925 had very few differences.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of the 25 Chrysler. I have the remains of a 24 Chrysler grill shell hanging on my wall as wall art, it would be nice to see what the car it used to be attached to looks like. Gene

I have a pic of the Chrysler but it's too big to post. I have no idea if the 2000 Dakota Chassis will fit under the 52 but it's so cheap I have to try. For starters it needs to be shortened 25 inches. The Dakota is a good running driving truck with a V-8 and good tires. I'll sell parts off the body to recoup my investment and go from there. The Chrysler is going to be put in storage for now, too many projects.

I came across this guy on YouTube that uses '09 Durango chassis for swaps. Doesn't look like he does any major work to the chassis to use it, and he leaves a majority of the wiring stock.

Grenade Motorsports

'53 International

'53 International goes to town (fast forward past the obnoxious start)

As the older Daks get harder to find, this might be a more viable option.

Yes the 2000 will fit. You may need to shorten the frame to center the wheels in the wheel wells. Especially if it’s an extended cab. I put a 52 on a 98 Dak chassis with no issues. I didn’t shorten the frame because I built a flat bed. I put an 04 Dak front clip in my 55 Dodge P/U with no issues. The 04 has a wider wheels base. I just finished putting a 56 on a 99 Dak chassis. The chassis was a extended cab so I had to cut and shorten the frame. You will also need to move the firewall back so the V8 will fit. Good luck sounds like a great project.

Poorboy,

Have you attempted to put the 39 Dodge front fenders on your Dakota frame? I'm about to start my 2nd '47 Dodge project and I have a good '88 Dakota frame as a donor.

thanks, 207racing

No. The Dakota frame curves outward and upward ahead of the crossmember. The frame occupies the same area the radiator support and fender mount needs to be. I did cut the Dakota frame off ahead of the crossmember and have added a couple of 24" long 2" x 4" tube frame ends. They have the last 14" pie cut down to a 2" x 3" at the front end, and are welded at the crossmember at a downward and towards the center angle to end about the same location as an original 39-47 frame front bumper would mount. The offset of the Dakota frame is pretty apparent with the tubing pointing so the bumper brackets will be centered, but it will be mostly covered by sheet metal. (I'll post a picture or 2) I will also be adding a radiator support, currently the nose is just on stands and tacked into position. The rad itself will be forward a couple of inches (I need more rad clearance for the 5.9) but when I'm done, the radiator will fit inside and forward of the original rad location, and the radiator support will be located at the correct distance and location to mount the fenders to the radiator support and lower nose piece. The inner fenders (inside the fenders and under the hood sides) will have to be modified to clear the Dakota suspension, I will make new pieces, mine are junk anyway.

The front fenders I have are in really bad shape, it will take several hours of welding on each one to make them presentable. At this point, I think I'm going to try the fender less route. I've always wanted a fender less ride. I have added a filler piece to the front bottom of the cab so it looks better without the fenders. Gene

Here are pictures of the original cab with the lower grill piece and an original frame, and one of my current cab with just the top nose and my modified frame. The thing hanging in the grill is a trans cooler, and its just hanging there. I was hoping to get the truck running and moving on its own before the weather turned bad, but I was unsuccessful. Gene
