I'm getting ready to purchase a set of 240's for my 400 to 512 build and I have a few questions. I think the 61617802-C00 is the correct head for my application but I would like a second opinion. Cam will be a hyd roller about 240 degrees. The cam in my 496 is I 242 and E 248 with ported eddy heads and carb. Its a monster and I love it but I want to use sniper FI with the Holley ignition and my engine builder believes a little smaller cam would work better. He would also like to see 130-140 spring at the seat and 310 and 340 open and likes the 10 degree retainer. I don't have any information on what springs are factory installed but from what information I have the 7802 head should be the correct choice. Is it? This is a street car. Looking for 600-650 torque under 5500RPM. Your thoughts.

I use a 246/246 hyd roller in my 512 with a Sniper + HyperSpark combo. My engine has 15 inches of vacuum at 850 rpm with that cam. Part of the trick is the HyperSpark ignition since it allows me to run 25 degrees of advance at idle. So I think your 242/248 should be okay but anything smaller should also work just fine. Here is a link to the Hot Rod article I wrote on my install: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/holley-hyperspark-install-tune/

Are you using the 7802 head with factory springs?

No, that engine was built 10 years before Trick Flow started selling Mopar heads.
