After restricting pushrods, I am still a little short on hi rpm oil flow, and am looking for a better rotor and body than a melling hemi hi volume. What works? I do have a steering shaft very close, so a minimal size increase is somewhat important.

Alc/fuel(RCD pictured)pump will push more oil than a Melling or eqivilant HV pump

Still a lack of sufficient pressure?

I spotted a Milodon segment (gears and outer housing) # 21815 that has a built in second entry, to allow dual line pickup without having to be taller, and i think it will work with my current cover. Anybody use it?

Are you sure it is a volume issue? Maybe you just need to shim up the pressure spring?

I would still try shimming it. That has worked for me even when logic says it shouldn't. And it's a cheap easy test.

We have used the Milodon 21815 for years but you better hurry if you want one. Milodon is canceling them and bringing out a new billet version.

Try shimming it to see what happens. A HV pump can flow enough oil to overcome a soft spring and force open the bypass. Like Joel says, it is an easy test. Just takes a few minutes to drop a washer or two in behind the spring and see what happens.

Mine has the .100"? taller stock style rotors, Indy cover with a single line, and the black spring. Push rod oil with .050ish restrictors (3/32"roll pins). Rods were .003, mains .004, lifter bushings close to .002. The spring has been trimmed 2 full coils. There is no static tension on it. Runs 70psi@7200.

I've had good luck with the 21815 pump for years, but I don't know how tall it is compared to a Melling pump height. Always great hot idle pressure and trap pressure. Usually, if anything, it has to be turned down from stock setup. I know that the Milodon covers are massive, due to all of the plumbing going through it.

Thanks, will do. Maybe the volume of oil needed at speed creates more pressure between rotors and the bypass just trying to keep up? another thought is pressure drops as flow in a pipe increases, so the pressure at the back of the motor where the gauge is connected?
I saw that at work. Printing ink(thick!) Wouldn't flow through a four inch pipe 150 feet even though the pressure at the pump was maybe 100 psi! Some bean counter was going to save the company money. " we don't need that 6 inch pipe!"
We had to go to portable canisters!

That pump is 1.950 long from the block mounting surface to the inside of the pump cover up

That's a great pump but if you are using the dual line system now with the spacer you will have to buy a midlength oil drive. Milodon 21523 if you are using a bronze gear.

The KB pump has 1-1/2 rotors but it uses external filter.

I have had one of the aluminum Milodon pumps bind up on me when installed. Can't remember if it was that one or the billlet one. When you are torquing on the oil pump have somebody turning the oil pump with the primer tool and make sure it doesn't start binding on you as you torque it down.

Thanks to all that answered, I have lots of ways to skin this cat. From just a washer under the bypass spring, which I figure will help, since you guys say so, to adding the five lobe Milodon pump segment, to going dual line since the 21815 unit will allow it with my tight clearances. I went ahead and ordered the 21815,to get all those options. I am going to use the 21815 and run the single line to it, since it makes a straight on entrance to the lobes, not the 90 degrees of a stock type pump. Also I will start with at least 75 psi cold, unless you guys think I should shoot for 80 cold.

Milodon 21815 here 70 psi cold, 30-40 hot idle and 100-110 WFO. I shimmed the crap out of the stock spring.

One thing to keep in mind that no one has mentioned, that Milodon pump is very efficient. I don't know how much capacity that you have, just make sure that you don't suck the pan dry. Seen it happen with one of those.

Thanks Brian. I run a total of 12 or 13 qts, with an acusump for protection, but i plan to hook my data logger to the oil galley to see how things are.
