I have noticed that when it comes to rear coil over shocks and springs, the springs mount right onto the coil overs by hand. But on Strange front struts, they call for 7" springs, even though the longest mounting position is only 6". You have to compress the springs to put them on the struts. Why can't I just put a 6" spring on theses struts? I understand they are preloaded by 1", but I could just do the same by adjusting the base collar on the coil over, without having to fabricate up a custom spring compressor for the struts.

Because if you started at 6" you could most
likely bottom out.. you only have 1.5 or so
of travel

2 1/2" total travel. And I will have to use a softer spring in order to get the suspension where it needs to be. If I use a shorter spring, I could use a higher spring rate, that will be at a higher pressure when the strut is compressed the same distance.
