Looking at both rule books.
So to run 9.0 at a IHRA track all I need is a license but at NHRA track I would additionally need a chassis cert and all the SFI protective clothing.
Is this correct?

I got caught with an outdated helmet last year at an NHRA track that was still good at my local IHRA track. My Duster runs 9.40's but needs chassis cert because it runs 6.0's in the 1/8. You gotta read those rule books then read them again. He also told me to get NHRA certified rollbar padding. LOL

I got mailed on the helmet also. Good at ihra not good at Nhra. Also I had a valid 6.0 second chassis cert for ihra but was turned away because I did not have a Nhra certification. Traveled 500 miles and was told I could not race. Won’t travel without both chassis certification again. Stupid to pay twice for the same checks!

Norwalk gave me a weekend sticker instead of booting me but I also told a little white lie and said it runs 6.60’s.

Of course it runs 6.60s....it just takes 800 feet.

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

NHRA cut off is 6.39 ET in the 1/8 mile for SFI certs, license and safety gear scope
Not sure about the MPH in the 1/8 mile confused Or if that is a player or not shruggy
I got busted for exceeding 135.00 + MPH in the 1/4 mile at Woodburn,OR when I first started racing my bracket Cuda there on the throttle stop, 10.01 at 143.6 MPH shruggy The solution was to put it back on the throttle stop at 9.30 to 9.50 to keep it under 135.00 MPH shruggy

It one thing to have all of the safety equipment (which I totally agree to keep us all safe). But, unless the car gets wrecked we shouldn't have to buy new helmet, gloves, jackets, pants, seat belts, window nets, parachutes, bellhousings etc every couple of years just because.... Hell, I am scheduled to go back to get the chassis re-certified again in May on my car. My belts & window net is due as well. Uggh.

The whole Grudge Racing (No E.T.) is where it is at these days. No rules no regulations & way more fun. Show up & race doesn't matter what you have. I know someone with a very fast No E.T. Mustang. The track finally told him he needed to install a racing harness & a roll cage. He added the harness & the cage as well (but the cage is all just PVC plastic tubing painted black with some padding over the door bars to hide the chipping paint from getting in & out of it). LOL.

The rules are in place to keep us safe and help protect themselves from idiots and anyone that would use PVC pipe in anything quick enough to need a cage or roll bar. .

From the rule book it looks like I can go 6.00 in the 1/8 with no SFI clothing or cert at a IHRA track?

That looks to be correct, depending on the car. Full body? Stock floors and firewall? Tube chassis? Makes a difference in both sanctions. NHRA starts at a cage being mandatory at 10.99 (6.99) and certification quicker than 10.00 (6.40). The reasons for the rules have been discussed at length, many times.

And by the way, your acquaintance with the Mustang is a moron. He won't be LOL when he cartwheels his flimsy Mustang down the guardrail and gets helicoptered out, if he survives. No rules, no regulations, just fun? Sounds like some Darwin Award nominees. I'll pass. I did tech at a track in the past. I know how stupid people can be. I want a tech guy looking at whatever is beside me.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Full body tube chassis.Looks like the only things I don't have at the moment would be a trans shield and balancer.
Just trying to figure out how fast I can go without a bunch of hassle.

Looks like -5 jacket at 9.99 in IHRA and 9.0 (6.0) goes to -5 jacket and pants, collar. 9.99 in NHRA for everything.
NHRA used to let Stock-Super Stock cars use different clothing requirements since they are all OE floor and firewalls. That appears to have gone by the wayside and everything is ET based for them as well.
