need to throw a motor together on a budget. have a 65 383 block with 69 pistons that is zero deck. have victor m/w heads from prev build. just need to run it for 1 yr as getting both knees replaced so funds will be tight. any thoughts? will be running 3.54 gears and 727. thanks in advance rick.

That 383 can run just like a stroked small block. I'd think those heads would like some rpms to make power with the tall, large runners Best to get a custom cam and converter to take advantage of the flow.

I'm going to assume this is a street car on pump fuel? If so make sure you know the exact true compression ratio and valve to piston clearances twocents scope

Be certain to check valve to cylinder wall clearance. Especially if it’s std bore

It will be a dog.

Put some 75cc E Street heads on it.

Sell the Victor heads and buy some street heads. You should be able to break even on the transaction and have a better combo.

Oh, so I guess I'm not the first to express that opinion.

It'll run better with a set of 516s with a decent valve job. Plus the Victor heads need special rocker gear, right?
3.54 gears, tall tires put together with an engine that just starts making power at 6,000rpm sounds like a nightmare on the street.

About the knees: Don't do them both at once. Rehab is easier if you have one semi-good leg to work with. And do exactly what they tell you about rehab, exercises, taking your pain pills and keeping it iced. Swelling will slow down the healing. My hospital gave me a little cooler with an electric pump that pumped ice water through a blanket-like heat exchanger. I learned to sleep with that thing on.

Following the directions and doing the rehab resulted in a glitch-free knee replacement and most days I don't even remember that it's there.

R.

Dont do it, you will hate it.

As mentioned, sell the heads, and put on some Sidewinders, Estreets etc. The 75 cc will be a bonus also.
