Anyone running a car street/drag with an original style 72 setup? I know Paxton and Procharger make setups for these cars but I'm more interested in the original pieces as far as installed location, air box(w/t/guad) etc. I would like to find an original kit if anyone has one(dreaming). Thanks for any input/help!

There was a used kit on eBay that sold for $1500 without the carb a couple weeks ago. We bought a new kit from a guy in California who had three of them around $3K a few years back, so they are still out there!

A complete original Mr Norms blower set up with brackets and pulleys sold on ebay for $1500 recently.

I'd love to hear about someone running one too. The original 72 GSS Demons are extremely rare and valuable that you won't find too many people wanting to beat on one. Rhinodart may have some info about how they run.

I have driven the Petty Blue 72 that my boss owns and it is pretty slow compared to his 71 six-pack car! Having said that, it is not tuned to run hard and is basically a show-only car. We have another one that might get restored eventually, maybe this one can be thrashed on? The other 72 Paxton car I have driven needed to be restored and was pretty worn out. I would love to see how these run when new, maybe one day!

I do have the drag test of a 72 Mr Norm GSS car that had 3.55 gears and ran a best of 13.92 at 106. MPH is phenomenal for ET, but was this because if tire spin which usually equates to this. I used to have a 73 340 Dart with stock 340 and 3.91 gears that ran a best of 13.92 but I believe the MPH was in the mid 90's and was hooking. I saw the supercharger on Ebay and kick myself for not bidding on it. I would love to find a "complete" kit and see what it will do. I think I will pursue the the California connection and see what he has.

I came very close to buying one of the complete kits off ebay a couple of years ago and had planned on a very healthy stroker buildup with it. Once I got into the facts of it though I determined that the unit does not flow much air IF your planning on doing much modifying aside from the blower. I think it would be great for a 12 sec ride but you will hit a "brick wall" with airflow if you want to go much more. I chose to go naturally aspirated as my 416 with W2's, .600 solid cam and tti's would have seen little if any gain for the money spent and I wanted to have room to grow for future modifications.
The moral to my story is think about your future performance goals before jumping aboard.
Good luck with whatever you do though
Rick

You're right, you would have hit a brick wall in terms of performance. I know even the 80's and 90's paxton ball drive superchargers were made with mild small blocks in mind. With some upgrades they can perform but they were originally intended for mild small blocks.

Craig Conley at Paradise Wheels in California bought all the early stuff from Paxton. He has the original tooling and a lot of NOS stuff. He would be the guy to talk to.

A few years ago I spoke with someone who apparently had some experience with these cars. He said the factory 340 cams work poorly with the blower. He used 318 cams which he claimed worked much better. No numbers to back that up though.

I drive my original B3 blue 72 GSS Demon about once a month to keep it in shape.
It is just like Rhino said. It is slower than my six pack 71 is by the seat of the pants, But really they would have to be run side by side against each other to be fair as the six pack car has more gear, larger cam and and yet it still is alot of fun to drive.
I have lots of this stuff as I have collected a few extra parts and still have two out of the three GSS demon 340's still.
I may be able to help you with your questions.

I was told that my blue 72 is putting out about 450 hp.
It spins the tires easily on launch, and has run a best of 13.04 at 104mph with 3.91 gears and stock exhaust and tires.
I live in Orange City, Florida.

That is a way cool car! Mine is Top Banana yellow with a black vinyl top. I am sure you know of the blue 4 speed 72 GSS that was in the magazines a few years ago. I seem to recall that they claimed it was the only 4 speed car. Guess they were wrong.

Wow, did you ever run it like that? What were the times?

The weakness of the sn60 blower is its inability to withstand high RPM. Did the impeller change help that? I would be pretty nervous with the 4.56 rear.

Grant, that is absolutely the nicest combo/best equipt Demon on this planet in my opinion.
I tried to buy Bill Seftons when it was for sale on ebay- but we know how that turned out...
If you ever want to part with yours mine could use a stablemate and I just happen to have a extra empty garage stall

Maybe one of you guys know what carb hides in that little box? Seems to me the 72 340 carb has the arm for the anti-diesel solenoid. Did Mr norm just whack it off? Any pics of inside the airbox?
