Hello, I have a set of '906 heads that were cut for double springs and p/c seals. Was thinking of using single springs w/dampners, '933. This would be for a high perf. street car.
My question is, it seems the spring would not be supported/located at the base, as the step has been removed. Is this OK or should I use another set of heads?
Here's a pic of the head I wanted to use.

Here is a pic of a head as stock, without being cut showing the boss at the base of the spring

Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Should be fine but if you're concerned you can use spring locators.

How close a fit is the spring to the collar?

Thanks for the replies, I've done a little research and the boss, un-cut in stock form measures about .990", the I.D. of a stock spring is approx. 1.020", about .030" clearance.
The spring I will use is a Comp Cam 911, which has an I.D. of 1.125" approx. .135" clearance. And I read in the mopar engine books and they refer to this boss as an inner step. So I'm thinking this boss does not locate the I.D. of the spring and prevent side movement as I was thinking. As long as the spring doesn't interfere with the step, I should be fine? And if the boss has been removed it should not be a problem?
