My car seems to eat tachs. I usually go cheap as I only use it for staging and shift via stand alone msd shift light. First tach was an eqquis that had a 5 star rating. Lasted 2 years. Next one was a summit cheapo that lasted 1 year. Per the tach my car idles at 0 rpm, needs to go. Is it that im using cheap crap? What do y'all recommend for a replacement?

Autometer and be done.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Two of my AutoMeters celebrated their 35th birthday, and one recently turned 24...all hooked to MSD units.

Autometer user here too. I learned long ago that it's better to get good stuff right off the bat. Their playback versions might be worth considering. I learned a LOT because I saw what was actually happening on the replays wasn't always what I thought was happening.

This seems weird but does the engine have a good ground? I killed my autometer tach when I tried to start the car with no ground wire on the engine. Tach pegged when I hit the starter and never worked again.

I've had the same Autometer Sport Comp 5" monster tach w/ shift light in the cuda for probably 17 years now.

Me too, old school mechanical. This photo could be captioned, why you should not be the first to run after a jet car.
