I picked up a 68 Dart post this weekend and its time to start making it go and stop. 273, bench seat, 19K mile car from New Mexico.

I've got a line on a rowdy smallblock but the 13" 5x4 wheels have to go.

Might as well start with the front brakes and wheels.

I ran the strange brakes on my 69 Dart and they worked pretty good but I'm always open to other ideas. This will be more of a street/strip car.

Thoughts?

Toss up. I have Strange struts and brakes in the front of my car, Wildwood in the back. I have found it easier to deal with Wildwood over Strange.

Just depends what you're trying to do and how much you want to spend. For a car that is going to see street miles I'd stay with factory parts since they are heavier and more robust. Plus, you can find replacements at any auto parts store. So for a street/strip car with 15 inch rims I'd use factory knuckles from a FMJ and 11.75 rotors. To save weight I'd use Wilwood calipers. I prefer the radial mounts but I think you would need to make the brackets yourself.

SSBC aluminum calipers all around Imo, Plus the SSBC has provisions to keep your emergency brake cable.

Toss a coin. Either brand will be a huge improvement over factory drums. I have Wilwood on the front, and Strange on the rear (bought the entire rearend from Strange).

Post Darts are cool!!!! Your Dart looks like a fun project car. Those 13" skinnies on the back make it look as though the rear was narrowed. I still have the original 13" hubcaps ('68 GT, 273) because nobody else wants them.

pic fix...

More street than strip...I'd use Wilwood.

Those ultrarare Wildwood kits are right up there w/ the super hard to find Elderblock intake manifolds. Don't forget those Brodak blocks and cylinder heads too. biggrin

I have Wilwood on the back and Strange on the front of my Dart. From what I've read Wilwood makes the calipers from Strange, other than the spacer in the rear caliper mine are the same.

I have had a wilwood kit on the front of my 68 Baracuda for 15 or so years. It has been great, no complaints. I just had to replace the rotors(should have a long time ago) and didn't have any trouble finding them and they weren't priced to bad, pads are cheap, no complaints. I just put a wilwood kit on the rear but I have not driven it yet.

Wilwood makes a lightweight kit with vented rotors, that work real nice in a street strip application.

This is what I have on the front of my car but keep an eye on them for cracks in the rotors if you race a lot with a faster car. Mine usually last a few seasons before they start hairline cracks. I do run a prop valve with rear Strange disc brakes. The rears don't seem to crack.

WOW Nice find. Looks pretty clean for a 68.
My brother found a 68 in AZ and it was nice like the one you found.
Anything here in the south is either rusted to the ground, or shot full of bullet holes be the red necks.

Wilwood is absolutely at the bottom of the food chain as far as customer service. Look up some of the old Moparts posts on Wilwood. Technically its pretty decent stuff but customer service can be off the charts bad if you need any real support. I have Wilwood front and back on the race car. In my case I had to file a dispute with my CC provider and Wilwood fired back that I was totally incompetent and had no right trying to install their equipment.

Had a lug nut issue go bad with Strange at the same time. Sent a letter to president of Wilwood and Strange. Sitting in my office I get a call from Jeff Stang (president of Strange) apologizing for what happened and sent me all new parts no charge. Wilwood ignored me.

So in my opinion absolutely Strange...............

Doctor Diff has his Wilwood on 11.75 kit available now. This setup gives you a heavy duty rotor with a lightweight caliper. Should be perfect for a street driver that goes to the track on the weekends.

This (4x 1.75" diameter piston) seems an actual upgrade to the factory single piston caliper with its single 2.75" diameter.
Multi- and opposing piston diameters are combined and counted on one side of the caliper only I recall, so 3.5" diameter in this case if I'm correct.

Interesting setup.

I went with strange front and rear including the master cylander absolutly love them, no problems at all, never ran Wilwood so cannot tell you anything about them except a few guy's that have run them had some rotor cracking and warping issues only to find out that Wilwood sent them too light a set-up for their weight and mph.

Light travels faster than the speed of sound,,,this is why some people seem bright untill you hear them speak.

Consider tire sizes and the amount of street vs. track use when deciding on brake kits, balance, etc. Don't put a ton of brake on the front, then put 4" wide tires on it.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I refuse to do any paint or bodywork on this one since the patina is mint.

Hoping another one of those Jegs 30% coupons will pop-up again soon smile

Thanks for all the suggestions!!
