I have a 340 block that needs to get remachined on the front face. The timing cover always has trouble sealing coolant. Was wondering it anyone has ever cut this surface.

You could machine it. Also could blast it clean, then JB weld. Block it flat with a stone. Actually if it was good and clean good RTV would seal it.

I was told it was epoxyed once before. The last time it was hot tanked it took it all off. Was also thinking about possibly spot facing around the hole with a annual cutter in a magnetic drill and putting a o ring in the hole.

I'd clean it surgically clean (wirebrush if needed) then the gasket AND TRS gasket cement. It has sealed stat necks that would not seal (drawfiled flat/gaskets/RTV).

The grey rtv gm uses would also work, so well youd need a rubber mallet to get the cover off next time.
