Looking for a fair priced winch that will hold up...to weekly use.

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200442140_200442140

I bought one of these Warn 1700's but haven't installed it yet. I liked it because it has the relay built right in, but it only has two mounting holes, and I am worried about that and it might not be strong enough...Lets see yours.

Considering taking it back and going with one of these, but the extra cash will be a little tough to live without.

I did find this one at a better price elsewhere...

I have been wondering the same thing myself. I dont know if the load rating should equal the car weight + some extra for pulling it up an incline on to the trailer.

Right now Harbor Freight has a 2000# for $59.99...
the way a winch is rate is a vertical pull.... so
if your winching up a angle you have more weight
pulling power... I just use the cheapo winch due to
it sits MOST of the time

Unfortunetly, the new trailer with the side escape door won't clear any of my vehicles, so it will be used weekly.

I had a 3000lb Harbor Freight winch in my last trailer. Worked very well. The hand switch started giving the guy that bought the trailer from an issue, but it never gave me any issues in all the years I owned it. It was $139...Maybe I should get another, I just didn't like the relay and all the wiring all over the place.

I used my cheapo all the time when I winched it in
backwards... never failed me

I have a little 3000 lbs winch I bought off Ebay a few years ago.. It pulls my cars up n down the ramp without any problems.. However the one problem I do have is the cable likes to jump off the spool and get all tangled...

I use to buy the cheap wenches , winches and found that they would let me down when I really needed them. The last two I've bought for race car trailers have been the Suoerwinch S 4500 I never planned on hauling a dress upped 4 whd one ton P.U.in my traler or on one of my trucks, until I was ask by a friend . My S4500 winch complained a little on pulling that 7500 Lb. rascal into the trailer but it did it without breaking or stopping Buy the best you can afford

I am really leaning towards taking the 1700 Warn winch back and upgrading to their 3700...And then later add wireless remote. Its more than I would normally need and so is the price, but I don't want it quiting on me.

check prices on Amazon too...actualy you can do a search for lowest prices on that winch thru the internet...

you probably already knew that

I use the Super Winches' 4500 series also and I do have their 8000 series that will dead lift 13,000 lbs...had that on a 3 car carrier a few years back and I wasnt going to give up a $900 winch...

I had a cheapo 1500# winch laying around that was for a electric snow plow. I tried it pulling my BB challenger onto my open trailer. It did it no problem single cable and was even better with a pulley and double lined.

So I take it with me nowadays just in case the car quits and I can't drive it onto the trailer.

If I was buying new, I'd get something a little bigger, but not huge because of the weight. I always think of the weight when buying stuff for a RV or trailer, it must be light weight.

My trailer already had a 2" reciever in the bed and I invested in a pintle hook mount to put my winch on, works fine. The mount weighs as much as the winch. I store in one of the side compartments in my RV.

I have a SuperWinch s4500 that I bought over 10 years ago. It works perfectly every time I use it, and has no problems dragging even 3/4 ton pickups onto my trailer.
