Had my car taken down to the metal and painted with a little body work. It took 5 months and a $10K. WAY TO MUCH!!!

That's exactly what I was trying to avoid with my street/strip '69' GTX! With the "down economy" MOST cars should be able to get painted for far less than 10k! Unless,of course, they're basket cases, that need LOTS of body work..or you're paying for a "Show Quality" paint job! Taking a car down to the bare metal is labor intensive(read: lots of hours) My painter didn't think it was necessary in my case! I don't really want to divulge how much it cost for the body work, and paint...some brazed patch panels had to be done in a few spots, but it was nowhere close to 10k. All he has left to do,is paint the lower body with the organisol black,as well as the 6 pack hood, and wheel it out. I'm VERY happy...SO FAR! BTW...looks like a REAL NICE shade of blue!

I have done paint and body for 20 years on everything from daily drivers to show cars. If the work is good and they used good products then that is a good deal. From the pic's it looks like they striped the engine bay/door jamb etc. That is a ton of work! You didn't mention what materials cost. I priced clear for one of my project this week it was $400plus just for the clear and activator. That eas at shop cost. I dought your painter could do jambs and all with one gallon. If you are happy with the work pay the man.

Whatever it cost, that's behind you now so enjoy the fact that it's done and now its up to you to get er done! There's simply waaaaayyyyy too many factors to simply cost compare without the breakdown of those costs. Car looks great.

P.S. it's only taken me 14 years to get mine done LOL

Did'nt want to spend more on paint than I did on the car so me and my boy did all the body-work, which is one of my least favorite activities. Then sent it over to Maico, base/clear for $900, We brought it home and did our own scuff and buff. Got TONS of compliments. I just can't justify an expensive paint job on a race car thats gonna get scratched or god forbid wrecked. Especially without insurance to back me up.

I dont pay for anything other than pinstriping and materials. Just paid the striper $250 last night to finish up the small tire car. I will tell you that we have just over $3000 in paint and materials in the car right now. Thankfully my son and i do the work, he is in the industry. We also do stuff for others and fro stripping a car down to metal and a total repaint on a Mopar I dont think $10K is out of line at all.

I didn't have to pay anything, just had to work for my sponsor. It helps when it's a paint company, they painted my cars twice.
Once was only for about week before I totaled the car on the track in 1st round on national TV.

I have now about 1700 bucks in getting my Demon repainted, not including the stripes and new bumpers we put on it.This includes a lot of prep time getting it straight.
The word was to not install the stripes until the paint is fully cured, so will have that done when it warms up here in another month or 6 weeks.
Will post pictures of it then.

When I worked at high end shop (literally next to chip foose, who referred us business) we were 10 grand to get in the door. Usually went up when the car got naked. It was show car quality, in so cal car went to pebble beach won best of paint.... yada yada yada..... We used high quality materials and on average we had over 3000 in just materials at our cost.

Most show cars received over 200 hours of documented labor- and yes a show cars usually went over 20,000$ The most expensive car was a 31 ford coupe-
We did most of the cars on that page.

http://www.wheelersspeedshop.com/projects.html

IIRC 27,000$, I personally did ALOT of the body work, and color sanded it and polished it and assembled it. It was through wheelers speed shop who was 1/2 block away from us. Great guys there!

We refused to do the white flames on it, so we painted it, it left came back with those things on it came back and we finished it.

The base coat on that car was 700$ a gallon. 3 gallons. just BASE!!!!

If we didn't strip a car (very rare) we could get it done for under 10k. also all cars were in and out of our shop within 3 months.
I left the shop as we got in a 1970 cuda convertible 440 car.... I wanted to stay just a bit longer, but couldn't
