89 Dakota 2WD 3.9. When I removed my rack and pinion, the steering shaft slide out of the fire wall. I slide it back in (rack not in yet) and now I can't remove the key from the ignition. I put pressure on the spring, but key still won't come out. I can start the engine though. What now?

***UPDATE***
I thought about it over night and decided this morning to see if the column shift was all the way in park. DOOH! It wasn't and the key came right out. Must have moved when the shaft came out. WHEW! Didn't want to tear down the column.
