Will the rear driveline from a 78 Dodge Power wagon standard cab short box with full-time 4x4 fit an 81 W150 standard cab short box with part time 4x4? I am needing a driveline for my daily driver 81 and cant seem to find one. We have a parts 78 that should be home in the next couple weeks and has the rear. Just wondering if I need to keep looking. Thanks, Jeremy

Check the universal joint size.

I would guess it will bolt in.
I swapped an 84 rear axle under a 76, but they were the D-200.
Only thing was lug stud size was different.
Never even noticed till I tried to install aftermarket wheels. shocked

I have mechanical Aptitude.
I can screw up anything.

Rear driveshaft or axle?

Either way I'd guess no.. certainly not the axle, bolt pattern is different.

Transfer cases are different lengths, how different I'm not sure.

Believe he means driveshaft. Bet it still uses small joint, but I am not sure of different length because of change to alum transfer case.

Could be a 9 1/4" or a 8 1/4" either way as well. If both are the same, you could swap the axles for the correct bolt pattern. If not the same, your pinion length will probably different and I think your driveshaft will be a problem. The 203 T-case has a bolt on yoke and the driveshaft will have the slip built in. The 208 will have a slip yoke with a solid driveshaft. Guess you'll have to see what you have when the truck shows up.

yes, rear axle housings all share the 43" perch centers

72-93 bolts in but may or may not need drive shaft cut.

85-93 had the larger wbp 5 on 5.5 IIRC c-clip change keeps them from swapping axles on 9 1/4 to 9 1/4

72-74 w100 & C-body&wagon 8 3/4 housing/axles are same width as truck and bolt in with a perch change on a 8 3/4 car housing.

A-body 8 3/4 bolts in and tucks 12" rims in the fenders on a truck

drive shafts? shop & chop to build as needed.
