I picked up a nice 2008 73k mile Hemi powered Chrysler Aspen a couple weeks ago.

I'm going through the vehicle to get it ready for some upcoming road trips.

I replaced the original shocks yesterday which made a huge improvement.

I'm now checking out a faint belt squeal/chirp that starts at about 1500 rpms and seems to go away at 2000 rpms and above.

I would like to loosen the tensioner and check it and the idler pulleys and alternator pulley and replace anything that's bad.

The front drive belt system is buried.

It appears removing the air box lid, tubing and box itself will give me some access from the side but the fan shroud is still in the way and looks to be a PIA to remove.

For those who've been there, done that, with these Hemi powered SUV's is there something else I'm missing in getting access to the front of the engine?

Thanks.

No trick plan just remove what you can and have at it. See if getting to it from underside helps. Here's a diagram if it helps.

They have a NAG1 transmission I believe, bulletproof tranny, as long as you stick to the transmission service intervals (30K mile filter and pan drop fluid change I believe). If you get skimpy on servicing them they can revolt on you (this is from a Mercedes mechanic friend)

Thanks for the advice and picture guys.

I picked up a new tensioner and a couple idler pulleys and will see how bloody my knuckles get.

With that low mileage I would just go with a Gates belt. IMO
Also it should have a 45 or 545RFE transmission super strong unit.

Well good news and bad news.

I removed the air box and tubing, one bolt holds the fan shroud on so I able to loosen and move it a little out of the way.

The pulley on the tensioner was a little squeaky and bounced a little when idling so I replaced it along with the 2 idler pulleys just to be sure.

The belt looked like new, no cracks or damage so I left it for now.

The bad is I still have a little chirp/squeal that starts at about 1600 rpm and goes until about 2000rpm then seems to go away. mad
It only seems to do this during normal driving, if I accelerate quickly there is no sound.
No sound at all when idling.

The alternator pulley didn't make noise.

So my next step will be a new Gates belt. shruggy
