I had some trim re-anodized and the pieces that were perfect before turned out awesome, but a couple pieces had some dings to be straightened and they turned out badly, but with nice anodizing. My question is: Does all bright dip look the same or are there going to be color differences from one place to another? I could have the same place I used before anodize the pieces after having someone else straighten and polish them, but I would rather just use someone else for everything if the end product is going to match the pieces not getting redone

bright dip/anodizing will/could vary between the same and or different vendors, which is why it's usually wise to maintain the same vendor, and have all the pieces done in one batch/lot

Same goes for chrome plating, shop A might use a smoke/grey chrome finish, and shop B uses blue chrome finish, some will ask/tell you, some just take the parts and finish them to what's in use/shop SOP/etc, both shops work appears like "bright chrome", till you combine/match components that you had each shop do for the same project, same happens with bright dip/anodizing, black oxide/ cad plating/etc/etc...and going back to the same shop months or years later is no guarantee that parts done long ago will match parts to be done/redone

It sounds like you're having the place fix the dings and dents. This may or may not be one of their stronger skill sets. There are guys out there who specialize in dent and scratch removal and polishing but farm out the anodizing. You may be better off going that route. They'll make you part perfect then farm the plating out to a trusted source and you'll end up with a "perfect" part. Plating companies often make their bread and butter on industrial volumes - not labor intensive stuff.

The place I used has been around the anodizing world a long time, did a lot of custom colored stuff for race cars among other things, but more recently has been advertising their metal polishing skills in Hemmings and probably other places. I have a guy that did an excellent job polishing my stainless trim, will probably use him to do the replacement anodized pieces I have. Ironically he uses the same anodizing place I used for stripping and anodizing parts he polishes

Who did you use? I have some good straight pieces that need anodize. Looking for a good source for the bright dip.

I used McNichols in Detroit (Redford, MI actually), nice people and the anodizing work was great. Just the metal straightening was not as good as I wanted. I should add I'm pretty particular, their metal work might be fine to a lot of people

Same here,I've been using them for year, only place that sent me everything back and didn't want payment until they were sure I was satisfied with work and one of those bills was over $1,800.I will say that what you get depends a lot on condition when sent,if you have trim that has any pitting, don't expect it to be flawless when finished.Every piece of aluminum trim on this car was done by McNichols.
