I'm in the middle of changing out the clutch in my car and it occurred to me that I seem to recall there being an article years back in either Mopar Collectors Guide or one of the other magazines that someone put a needle bearing in where the pilot bushing was. Would anyone have this article or part number for the bearing? Is there really any big difference with doing the upgrade?
Thanks for the help.

Before you buy on ebay look on Rockauto under $9 dollars 2000 Dakota 5.9. I have run these in all my cars. Never a problem.

Is there any kind of modification needed for the input shaft or the opening in the crank?

I'm on the Rockauto web site and I can't seem to locate it. There is an input shaft bearing which they have two listed under 2000 Dakota with the 5.9 engine.
1DGEMAN, do you have a part number that I can search?
Thanks

There is absolutely ZERO gain to this swap. It can't even be called an "upgrade". Just think how many years and how many cars have bushings in them. I can only surmise that Chrysler made the change to save money. Instead of reaming the hole to size and then pressing in a bushing, they could just hog out the crank and then tap a cheapo bearing into the existing flywheel register. I've been reluctant to 'upgrade' to the anti-friction bearing also. With the brass bushing, even with marginal lubrication, it's hard to tear up the transmission input shaft. A failure of the roller bearing would probably give you a different result.

Is there any kind of modification needed for the input shaft or the opening in the crank? If it was not originally a 4sp crank make sure the pilot hole is deep enough to clear the input shaft.

Obviously you don't know that this bearing fits in the machined index for the torque convertor. The gain is any crank can be used with a 4sp. Just check the depth of the pilot hole so it clears the input shaft.
