The trunk hinge pin is worn out (deep groove) on my challenger and the body shop wants to replace the whole welded assembly. This seems an unnecessary amount of work seeing as how it's just the pin.
The bracket that mounts to the deck lid is ovaled out but that could be welded and drilled.

Can the pin just be drilled/ ground out and a new one put in? I haven't seen any vendors offering just the pins, so i take it this is not a common solution?

I would think you could just slide a bushing over it. Maybe make one out of a thin wall pipe slide it on tack it in place just enough to hold it on and a over size clip. thats what I would do.
