just noticed that Jim's and Rock Auto sell heat riser packages. Jim's is $300 and Rock Auto's is $35. Can anyone explain the huge difference?
Is this a repair kit or it is complete if the heat riser is missing from the manifold?

do you have a heat riser on your manifold that you're rebuilding? Mine is missing from the manifolds that I purchased so I need to know if everything is included in this kit.

Do not know what the rockauto kit contains, but I am pretty sure now the Chrysler ones consisted of:
2 cups
2 bushings
1 anti rattle spring
1 thermostat
1 counterweight
1 shaft
1 stop (straighter spring)
1 flapper

Here is the Chrysler instruction sheet if anyone wants it.

hey Jeff,
thanks for posting the installation info. I'm reconsidering if I even want to install the heat riser valve. I know it's more accurate but my T/A is never driven in cold weather so maybe I should just seal up area where the heat riser is installed.
What's the best way to seal, nut and bolt or weld? Any susggestons?

It's not as simple as some may think... I would bolt & braze...

Hi, Do you have a P/N for the kit from Rock Auto or another source other than Jims Autoparts? Thanks.
Ray

karl,

i was in the same boat as you are now. I'm not concerned about being correct, and since i allready had the valley pan without the heat ports the decision for me was easy. i just got a stainless bolt/nut and copper washers (hardware store), it's been about a year and no leaks/issues at all, plus i could just change the nut bolt at any time.
You could also consider installing the external thermostat and just leave the "flap" inside out, or cut it out, that way it would appear stock, but not work.

Hey Martin,
thanks for the info. What I may consider is buy the rebuilt kit from Rock Auto and install only the valve for appearance.
BTW are you taking the Charger to the Mopar factory show this Sunday?

I have been compiling a list of these packages/separate parts/years/supercession dates and interestingly came across in the 68 book
9-59-10 Plug,Exh Man Heat Cont Valve Shaft Hole |CID 340| |qty 1| 2843957 ( part # in the "LA" eng row 273/318/340)
