Here's an original thin damper on a 10/15/68 manifold. It looks to be an iron casting. Or it could be a steel casting.
If you don't see two dolphins, you need a vacation.

Here's an NOS replacement thick damper. It looks to be a precision powdered iron pressing. It's magnetic. Maybe the reason for high precision was to get the center hole to the correct press fit diameter without machining? Even the numbers and the pentastar are precision.
If you don't see two dolphins, you need a vacation.
