has anyone used this on their car,i was debating to switch to ignitor from my dual point distributor, how is the dependability of these units?i hear you can not use them with a factory tac which is what i have and want to keep it?you have to use the correct ignitor for what ever ignitor you have whether its ignitor 1,11,111. thanks

Are you haveing an issue with the DP setup or just wanting more performance?

You can still use the factory tach. I don't understand the rest of your question. You will need to bypass the ballast resistor and use the correct coil, but it all can be made to look stock. What would you do with the dual point? They make a Pertronix for the dual point distributor I think.

Then I don't know if Pertronix makes a unit for a Mallory dist. I thought you were talking about a stock dist.

Pertronix makes kits for some Mallory dual point dist, if the OP knows the type of dist/PN#, I might have a Pertronix part number for the OP's application

There's a bad assumption at work here: The Pertronix reduces maintenance and that's about all it does better than a dual point distributor.

You'd be better off by first getting the distributor curve changed to match your engine.

I have nothing against electronic ignition, I use it whenever possible, because it removes a maintenance item. However, IMHO it is incorrect to assume switching to electronic ignition will increase performance.

Dog is right, I would dial in the dist subsystems in order: initial/total/springs/vac adv, then possibly go with a hotter coil/less ballast & see where you are at.

I was hoping you weren't going to say the 27 series (vacuum advance) sorry there's no current Pertronix application for that unit, the 23,24,25, and 26 Mallorys, as well as the 37,38, Unilites have kits available, the 27 is the lone wolf so to speak, you could try contacting Pertronix's tech dept (909 547-9058) to see if they could retrofit a Mallory 26 YL Pertronix II module for you? if you still desire a Pertronix set up

I've done some unique Pertronix installs over the decades including some as bizzare as a 1947 Clark Forklift, various 60-80's inboard 4/6/8 cylinder Boat applications, and a variety of Automotive applications, some of which no kits were available, but by contacting Pertronix directly they have always had some solution to the application
