I know a form of the upcoming question has been answered previously, but can I safely bypass the ballast resistor when you using an Ignitor I (not II or III) unit, with a Flame Thrower coil?

I have heard occasionally that it will kill the Ignitor I setups.

2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab: 5.7, 65RFE, 4.56 gears with locker, Hemifever tuned, AFE intake, 87mm throttle body, JBA headers, 3" Flowmaster exhaust, split to dual 2.5" exits. 13.57 best ET so far.

Searching for new A or B Body Project!

I ran it with the BR in the 68 dart for a few yrs, then by-passed it,ran a little better by the seat of the pants.

have it on the 85 truck now with the BR by-passed and been doing great for the last few yrs.

I have had this unit and coil for 15+ yrs

spade cliped the plugs together and removed the BR

Ignitor I and chrome 40,000 volt flame thrower coil

coil has been horzontal for 15+ yrs also

I've done the Ignitor I and II's with no ballast resistor for years,...why would one want to keep the ballast, just a weal link,....as long as you run the PROPER Flame Thrower coil (there are several), you'll be fine,...I prefer the Flame Thrower Epoxy filled coil over the oil filled, for reliability/duration

Essentially, as long as the red is to the positive, negative to black, and the lead to negative, I can cut out the resistor and splice or sauter both ends of the wires together?

I have a black Flame Thrower coil.
