I need to know the differance between the auto and std. shift carbs. I have a 44289 carb for a 440 auto. Can it be built as a 4426s carb? What is the differance? Will it work with a 4spd. trans? Thanks

the calibration is a little different , most people would never know the difference , rebuild it if it needs it and use it .

No more than the difference between 2 brands of gas!
You have probably changed something from factory stock or even the differene between the gas available back then compared to now warrants calibration of the carb with a good A/F meter.
