Hello
I plan to come to the US this winter and drive my 70 300 conv in California and Nevada. The car is now near Los Angeles in the loving hands of a friend of mine. My worries are on somebody stealing the car. What are you guys using as theft prevention?
Thank you

there are a few choices depending on your budget and plans.
lo-jack for recovery
hidden kill switches so it cannot be started
add a stick shift to it so they cannot drive it.

Its a 70 300 conv, its safe, LA isnt that bad overall.

But really all ya can do is maybe a cutoff switch, spend the cash for a gps unit and have the proper ins and enjoy yourself.

You could fit a full size bed in the trunk. runaway

I've been told the best way to keep a Harley from being stolen is to put a Goldwing cover on it.

Keep a pitbull in the cabin at all times.... wave
Seriously though, install a hidden kill switch, it'll be fine.

Lojack or GPS would be good but high dollar I would imagine (never priced one). I think a skilled high end auto thief would be able to bypass/defeat alot of simple alarms. My thought would be to add a common 1/4 turn ball plumbing shutoff valve in the fuel line, with the valve/handle under the seat but hidden somewhat & shut it off then assuming they bypass any alarm then several blocks away it will die in the middle of the street & no amount of cranking will get it going & they will likely panic & have to vacate. it might take several feet of added line to let them get out on a more public road & possibly a vent so all the gas in the line can be pulled forward by the fuel pump (I ain't sure on that as this is just a planned in my head addition), first I have to build something worth stealing! but JC whitless in Chicago used to offer a kit with a button you add on the steering wheel so if you were carjacked you could unobtrusively press the button as you exited the vehicle at gunpoint & it would electrically trip this shutoff valve to make it stall a few minutes later.

Pack a "judge" with you..... Not the kind that sits behind the bench.

Don't leave anything valuable out in plain view. They'll just cut the top if they want it bad enough. Cheapest would be to take the coil wire with you.

We had a few cars at the shop that had hidden kill switches.Even jumping the wires they would not start. Most had a pressure switch that was totally unseen that you had to touch to start.Had a few that had a chip type also.Oh by the way one was a 70 300 vert.I worked on it all the time.Rocky

Use common sense in parking it.
Hidden switches and fuel cut offs wont deter a skilled thief.
A big dog might. grin
That said...
Don't spoil your trip by worrying about something very likely to NOT happen.
Insurance is a MUST HAVE anyway.
Pay for parking in secure lots when you need to leave it out of sight for a long time.
Enjoy your self.

Oh and Welcome to America. beer

Better yet, a "governor" which will give you 1 more option to handle a situation.

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying that something will happen during the day or while out driving. People will smile and wave, you will be fine. I drive my '69 300 conv. everywhere and when I park it there is always a group of admirers 'watching' it for me.

At night, make sure it's in a secure spot, a locked garage is best. If someone really wants it they'll bring a wrecker and tow it. That being said, I do unplug the coil and have a kill switch, and a lot of insurance! Enjoy your trip!

I pull the rotor so they won’t just pop in a coil wire. I’ve been known to disable a tow rig and park the trailer against a poll to detur theft at a hotel.

I want my fair share
