72 340 Cuda paint code HT8? and top color HT8
Also what hood call out should a 72 have? 340 Four barrel OR 340 Cuda?
Tailight panel, Painted body color or black, argent OR??? AND Did the rear panel also have a cuda emblem back there as well?

For what it's worth I looked at a 73 Cuda for a guy earlier this spring.

Tail panel was black and appeared to be well worn organisol.

'CUDA emblem on the left side of the license plate.

I want to say the hood script said 340 Cuda, but I didn't get a picture of it. I think the "340 4 barrel" emblems were Dodge Challenger specific???

I have a pair of emblems off a '71 or 72. They read 'Cuda340.

340 Four Barrel was for a Challenger.

Is your car's VIN a BH23-Barracuda or a BS23-'Cuda. The 340 was available in both models. At a car show a few months back, I saw a 1972 BH23 with a 340, and it had the 340 4-barrel hood callouts. I questioned the owner, and he claims that it is correct, as only the BS23-'Cuda had the 'cuda 340 hood callouts. I don't know this to be fact, but he seemed like a knowledgeable Mopar guy, and it would make sense that a Barracuda would not have the 'cuda 340 emblems, since it's not actually a Cuda, but a Barracuda. On your tail panel, I going to ASSUME that a BH23 would have a Barracuda emblem or possibly a "by Plymouth" emblem, and I'm also ASSUMING that the BS23 had the 'cuda emblem. As for argent or black, I'm not sure. Again, may depend on BH23 vs BS23.

As for the two HT8 paint codes, one is for the main body color, and one is for the roof. In your case, I'm presuming that you don't have a vinyl roof, so the two matching paint codes would be correct on the fender tag and broadcast sheet. HT8 is Chestnut Metallic.

I've never seen a '72 Barracuda with factory 340. Hood jewelry for all 340 Cudas said 'CUDA 340 - never 340 Four Barrel - that was Dodge. Yes to CUDA emblem on the tail panel, & all were black, never Argent on anything other than a 1970 Grand Coupe B-Fish. Never a body color taillight panel on any 70-74 Cuda I've ever seen.

Someone show me a photo of a '72 B-Fish with a factory 340 & I'll be a believer! Now I did once own a '74 Cuda with a 318 back in the 80's! And it was factory. No emblem w/engine callouts on the scooped hood, & yes to a 'CUDA emblem on the black tail panel, no dual exhaust. I do believe it had both F&R sway bars too. It was an original paint car.

Yep 72-3 340's and 74 360
72-4 the tail panel emblem is on the left side unlike 70-1 where it is on the right side.

So it is a 72 Barracuda. See if someone else can chime in here with clarification on the proper hood callouts.

Update...I just checked your WIW pics, and the 340 4 barrel hood callouts match what I was told... thumbs

black(organisol) tail panel on 72 Cuda
body colored tail panel on 72 Barracuda

I believe the 318 was standard in 72 Barracuda AND Cuda. I seem to remember seeing a dealer bulletin from early 72(on Hamtramck-historical) that stated the 318 was becoming the standard engine in the Cuda.

I have also seen the info that Dennis shared on the 318 being the standard option in the Cuda for 72. My 1972 340 Cuda shows as "sold car" on the window sticker which probably means it was ordered that way (with the 340).

I had a Cuda hood with no emblem holes. I guess that it must have been from a 318 Cuda

You could get the raisin bran hood on 1970 Barracuda & Gran Coupe models about mid-model year regardless of engine size also.

Plymouth offered the J54 "sport hood" as an OPTION (STANDARD on 'cuda & with 340)

Dodge NEVER offered the J54 "sport hood" as an OPTION (STANDARD on R/T, Rallye & with 340)

The Rallye Package was an extra cost option that included the hood.
