I am looking for some REAR air shocks or something like them that i can use to adjust the ride height of my 69 road runner.


I have bought Monroe and Gabriel brand air shocks and both have failed within weeks of installing them (meaning they leaked though the bags). I know air shocks are no bueno to most people but unless someone has a better plan for adjusting ride height that is not just full on air bags with a compressor, this is the only way to go for me. So just taking a chance that some knows a company that makes something better then a $60 set of junky air shocks?

Why do you need to adjust ride height? The problem with air shocks is the upper bracket where they mount isn't made for that kind of abuse.

So i have been told, but there is not any wear on that area and all looks good. I carry a lot of weight between people and stuff in the car and need to raise and lower it when needed.

You can have a spring shop add a leaf or two to the springs. Trucks have "overload" springs that only make the spring stiffer once they compress a certain amount.

Yes i thought about that but i want to change the ride height at my own discretion. Air adjustable rear shocks work perfect for me but they are made so crappy and all leak for the same reason i guess all stuff is made cheaply. I was hoping to find some made better within a decent price range. Maybe there is nothing out there but just taking a shot.

I had a pair of these under a E body I bought mostly for parts. I did drive it one time and seemed fine and it had good stance, azz was not sagging.

have air shocks on my 69 B body for 20 years no problems.

How about air bags? Usually found on trucks, maybe a universal kit could be made to work? I've kicked around the idea of using these on my wagon.

That's because they were made way better 20 years ago i bet!

So I guess shackles are out of the question?

I bought some air shocks from Napa for my '73 Dart Sport. Been on there about 5 years with no issues...Need new springs though. Big time!

I bought some shocks with the outer springs on them from rock auto. The springs are not under much tension you can move the spring up/down with your hand. They did nothing to help raise the rear of the car.

Thanks! I will go by and check out the ones that Napa sells, who knows maybe they are better made??
