Looking for comments on accuracy and longevity etc. They carry two versions, one is steel w/plastic float, the other is stainless w/brass float. The cheaper steel one look identical to the 3420844 Mopar unit (thats listed as NOS on certain sites ) I also see that Spectra makes a steel one per Rock Auto.

Heres a link to the stainless version:

and the cheaper steel one:

If anyone has rebuilt the original Im all ears. The contact point on mine has worn through and just has a jagged hole, and I think the winding ends have contact issues.

Thanks!

No experience with the new sender.

But I had same issue with mine. The contact point for the wiper had corroded and the arm fell off.

I cleaned up both contact points and soldered the arm back on. Fairly easy since the contact is brass. Working just like new now.

I didn't want to replace the factory part after reading all the complaints about the aftermarket.

Thanks for the reply
The contact point on this one is worn through, what can I use to replace it with? If a bead of solder will work thats fine, but will the lead just wear off from sliding across the windings?

Also one end of the winding has intermittent current flow, I suppose from corrosion under the rivet. Any ideas for that?

Maybe we're talking about different spots?

The wiper arm is connected to the pivot point (small rod) that rotates as the float moves.

The other end of the wiper arm (small brass contact) rubs across the windings to complete the circuit.

If your windings are bad, it might be better to get a new unit.

My wiper arm seperated from the pivot rod.

It was easy to place the arm back on the rod and wick solder across the surface to bond them together.

I have the cheaper version with the plastic float, no problems at all!
