putting a 440 in a 74 charger have 2 sets of heads 1972 and 1976 ..1976 has hardened valves the 72 were rebuilt years ago still in bag not sure if has hardened valves .what is the valve size or cc size ?? pretty much a stock rebuild with comp 484 cam auto trany 2400 stall 355 gears..

Need the head casting #s. You can measure the valves easily.

If the 72 heads have been rebuit and the 76 haven't, i'd use the 72s. the 72 is probably a 346. I believe some of those had hardened seats. The 76s(452 )will for sure.Heads from 72 to 78 are all the same performance wise. I believe the need for hardened seats has been exaggerated. Seems like GM had a much bigger problem with valve recession than Chrysler did.
