I bought a canister style Fram fuel filter for my 72 Cuda and was wondering where is the best placement along the fuel circuit for this, originally I was thinking by the tank but I was reading the Holley book last night and they said there should be a filter between the pump (mechanical) and the carburator or do I add a small second filter between the carb & pump if I put the filter by the tank ?

The carb is what you are(mainly) trying to protect so between the (mech)fuel pump and the carb. One between the tank & the pump(elec or mech) would protect the pump(s) but it would need to be less restrictive as it is on the suction side and then a fine micron filter between the mechanical pump & the carb.

The filter is Fram's HPG1(10 micron Filter)
Is this considered to restrictive if placed between the tank and pump or should I just plumb this between the pump and carb and call it a day and not worry about any filter between the tank and pump. (I did put a new filter sock in the tank)

Put it between the pump and carb. Your pump will work better if it's after the pump.
