if you dont have a crush collar, you have no way to tighten the pinion nut with enough torgue to keep the yake from coming loose, and have bearing preload that is measured in inch lbs, not ft lbs.

were you able to turn the oinion easily before you tightened the pinion nut? chances are it probably turned free until you got about 10lbs on it, with no crush collar, you have those pinion bearings bound up.

you neeed to dissasemble the rear end, check the bearings and races for damage, and set the pinion up with the proper crush collar for the correct drag, then redo your backlash. that should get you all fixed up.
