I tested a 750 Mighty Demon on my 340 in place of the 650 speed demon it currently runs. The mid range and top end where awesome and the idle quality was atually much better.

The engine shop can get me a 650 Mighty Demon -all he says I need- or they also deal with Quick Fuel but he wont recomend the Quick Fuel because I haven't tested it. I like the idea of a choke but its not a deal breaker.

Which way would you go?

Car specs below.

Stock J Heads 2.02 intake 1.60 exhaust and Crane Gold 1.5 ratio rocker arms.

3.55 gears and a 727 with 3000 stall from SMR, stage 2 shift kit from transgo.

It runs a Hughes cam #heh2328al

111deg lobe seperation/installed centerline 108deg
intake lift .506/ exhaust .524

Duration@.050 Intake223deg/ Exhaust 228deg

Cam timing @ .050” Tappet Lift

Intake Opens: 3.5 Deg BTC
Exhaust Opens: 48 Deg BBC

Intake Closes: 39.5 Deg ABC
Exhaust Closes: 0 Deg ATC

Engine is .060 over with Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons on stock rods and a stock forged crank.

Ignition is an FBO box

Since Barry Grant folded up I'd stay away from anything he sold.

650 is not enough for a decent 340 either.

I just picked up a Quick Fuel 830cfm from their SS (Street Series) line for the 440 in my Coronet. I'm pretty pleased with it -- No dyno time, and I haven't driven it much yet (still finishing it up), but it runs strong so far...

I had planned on getting a Demon, but then was turned on to Quick Fuel when Barry Grant folded. Everyone I asked who had one said they were good, so I went with it...

A Mighty is not the right carb for your app. Most likely your idle/cruise will be pig fat...The mightys are designed for alot more cam than what you have.

I have a 825 mighty on a mild 440, cam has 20 more degrees at .050 than what you have. It was pig fat at cruise with stock jetting. In the mid 10s on a AFR gauge. Ive had to go smaller on IFRs and bigger on IABs and it is still fat at cruise, but getting better.

With that convertor and gears, I would go with the annular QF, and with the 340, they like 750's...I have one for sale if interested I ran on my 360, and it was awesome. Very similar set-up to yours....An annular carb is more responsive and acts like a carb that is 200cfm smaller than it actually is.

I ran a 650 Speed Demon DP on my 340 about four years ago. It was a nice carb but I wanted something with more adjustablility and an electric choke.

For the last three years, I now run the Quick Fuel Super Street 750 Annular DP (#SS-750-AN: 735cfm is actual rating per QF). It comes with the electric choke, adjustable secondary linkage, replaceable: air bleeds, idle feed restricters, and pvcr's. These adjustable features sure helped me dial it in when using an O2 sensor for tuning.
It is a very nice running carb and I would definately recommend it on a mild built 340. Like Drag said, it is very responsive on the street.

Note:
QF makes allot of their own carb parts and they are usually cheaper than Summit (Air Bleeds: $5.26/pair, IFR's: $5.52, Main Jets: $4.89, High Flow PV (QF standard equipment): $6.32)

Note2:
When I called QF with my car combo, I asked for the SS-650-AN and they told me that since the annular booster takes away 15cfm, they suggested that I try the SS-750-AN instead. The tech thought that the 650 would be too small for my setup.

I am a big fan of demon carbs however since they are not around any more i wouldn't buy one. However the 650 demon is right for your app. When BGtech was still on this baord he informed me that demon way underrates there carb. My 750 speed demon flowed around 850 ot 860 cfm he told me Good to know after I choose my carb

Called the Quick Fuel techline and they recomended a 650 SS Double pumper. I asked about the version with annular boosters and he didn't recomend them on the street as they go rich in the top end.

Any experiences?

My QF annular cruises in the mid 14's at cruising speeds (2700-3200rpms) and then goes to 12.5 A/F from a cruise to WOT. Then it leans out to 13.0 by the time it gets to my 5700rpm shift point.

I wonder what kind of rpms they see the annular getting rich. Maybe it is higher up in the rpm range than what I shift.

What is weird is that Zack (QF rep) recommended to me the annular DP because it was more responsive on the street. I am very pleased with his advice.

Do you think they helped much for the bottom end response and torque the website mentions?

I just ordered a pair of QF 770 Vacuum secondaries, got them with annulars on the primarys and downlegs on the secondaries. I hope the 1200.00 I got them for is worth it. Tim

""Do you think they helped much for the bottom end response and torque the website mentions?""

I have used a handfull of carbs on this 340 (Edy 600, Edy 750, 650 Speed Demon DP, the same Demon modified with Proform main body and Proform metering plates, and a Promax street/strip 650 vacuum secondary). The annular DP gives me the best overall performance of any of these previous carbs. But,,,,, it came stock very rich and it was a dog when I first got it three years ago. I've tuned it and it quickly became the best carb that I have used so far. Then recently I started tuning it with an O2 sensor and the carb is more reactive than before. My fuel curve is now correct and I think that it is an excellent street carb for my setup. If you order thru QF, then you can have a choice of the anodize color on the outside of the carb (metering blocks and base plate). I chose to have them do mine in black.

I have back to back time slips with the annular 750 on my 360 to the 1000cfm FAST efi, and the carb had slightly higher mph by .35mph to the efi...That should tell you somthing right there.

Annular gives you a fantastic low end on a big carb, and the cfm of the big carb gives you the top end. Now if you go with a smallish 650, you don't want the annular, as the boosters take up enough room to really call it a 550...The boosters are big, that's why they are so responsive at low end. And mine is a chokeless race carb I drove on the street back and forth to work on all the nice days, and to TNT once a week. Fires up awesome and drivability was really good.

""Now if you go with a smallish 650, you don't want the annular""

Drag,
That reminds me that Zac told me that when he recommended the 750 over the 650, he said that the 750 with annulars would be just as responsive as the 650. Plus the 750 would give me a little bit of room for any mods in the future.

Now that I thought about it, Zac did not want to sell me the 650 annular when I asked for it.

I run a 950 Quick Fuel on my 416 stroker. The engine loves it. For the street, it's a 750 Holley. I have to admit I've never run a Demon carb. But just the fact that the factory doors are closed on Berry Grant, I guess I won't use one.

So for my car would the 750 with annular boosters be overkill?

I know it really likeed that 750 Mighty Demon mid range and top end it pulled much harder, the bottom end was no better or worse then the 650. Both the engine shop and Quick Fuel are recomending I go no bigger then the 650 however.

So it seems as the choices sit at 650 SS Double pumper no annular boosters or step up to the 750 with the annular boosters

The 750 with annulars just plain works better than any other carb I have ever had.
