Am I right in thinking that the quoted RPM range of an intake is based on airflow, and if it's used on a stroker, the actual RPM range will be lower? Since a 505 is 15 percent bigger than a 440, would the RPM range be 15 percent lower than the advertised range?
If so, would it be the same with the rated RPM range for a camshaft?

I am also very interested in this subject. I am almost positive you are correct about the drop in rated RPM range but I don't know of any way to calculate it.

Dont know if this helps but w a stroker you have the incr in swept vol of course and the faster piston speed however that would affect it which I think might b that it'd reach peak volumetric efficiency at a lower rpm

There are a lot of other variables at play here.Compression, head flow, carb cfm, reciprocating assembly weight, valvetrain weight, etc.
The same cam in a 383 will likely turn 300-500rpm higher than it will in a 440.Go from 440-496 and it will likely drop another 300-500rpm.
I don't think you can put a % on it.
The bigger the motor the more airflow is needed to gain all the hp/tq increase it is capable of so long as you don't go too big and start to lose velocity and efficiency.

It definitely affects cam, intake and the heads. the operating range or sweet spot drops. From my observations it will affect it by 2/3 of the % in cubic inch increase so in this case 10% it will lower peak tort by 10% say it was a 5000 it will drop to 4500 and say peak hp is 5800 it will drop to 5200 using the same heads cam and intake. making only a Cubic inch change.
a 446 to a 505 will make the cam act about 20 deg less duration.

Torque peak RPM is closely related to the CSA of the induction system. I covered that in my big block book since it is an important part of picking the right heads for a stroker motor.

Thanks for the replies.
Andy, I've got your book, I'll have another look later.
