What hole size do you use for mounting the 2-1/16" gauges? I want to slip the body thru a hole and mount them flush.
I have a couple that I want to remount but I need to pickup a hole saw and I am not sure what size to buy.

Thanks

I cant remember what size I used when I mounted mine.I measured the gauge and found one that was just a bit smaller than the gauge body so the bezel covered the hole.I did have to use a rat tail file to open it up a bit.The gauge fis nice and snug in the hole.I took an old mounting bracket when I bought the hole saw.Rocky

I did the same thing. I know the hole is smaller than 2 1/16, I think I used a 2" hole saw and then a dremel to open it up a little more to fit the gauge.

left it nice and tight, don't even use the retaining clip that attaches from the back, the gauge fits so snugly into the holes.

2" hole saw, then file to de-burr and open up the ID if needed.

Thank you all for the replies.

I got home from work and found another 2-1/16" gauge and it measured 2.02" on the body. The bracket that I bought measured 2.08".
It looks like a 2.06" hole saw would work too.

Thanks again.

Imagine that! A 2 1/16 guage actually fits in a 2 1/16 hole.

2 1/16 would be 2.0625. the gauge he measured was 2.02, .04 smaller than 2 1/16...and is just a hair smaller than 2 1/32 (2.0312)

close, but still not a 2 1/16 gauge fitting into a 2 1/16 hole!

""Imagine that! A 2 1/16 guage actually fits in a 2 1/16 hole.""

A 2-1/16" gauge bracket actualy measured 2.08". This is the reason that I asked the question.

If I make my own bracket, I was after a more precise answer. Since some did not have the actual measurement (including me), I grabbed my calipers once I got home and let the people who were interested know the body measurement.

Thank you for your technical reply.

The point is that it isn't a precision fit. It called a 2 1/16 guage because it is sized to fit in a 2 1/16 hole with some clearance. They always fit pretty loose in the brackets. If the bracket hole is big enough to slide the guage in and small enough so that the guage flange covers the hole it will work fine. Stewart Warner says their guage is 2.04, VDO is 2.05 and Autometer just says theirs fits in a 2 1/16 hole. Since you are wanting a more precise fit then you did the right thing by measuring the guage.

It depends where you are mounting the gauge also.I have a set of hole saws. When I put my gauge in the hood scoop I first drilled a piece of scrap sheet metal.Tried the gauge in it.Its easier to drill some holes in scrap than try to repair a hole thats too big in the car.Rocky

When I make a gauge panel I usually cut the hole at 2.070 for the 2 1/16 gauges and 2.630 for the 2 5/8 gauges. The body of the gauges is usually a small amount under the states size.
