we are getting ready to install a vinal top on my sons 70 coronet and wanted to know what glue we should use and if it can be bought in spray cans?

can the yellow contact cement for counter tops be sprayed out of a spray gun like spider webbing???
thanks in advance. Ron....

auto body supply shops sell both liquid, and aerosol vinyl top adhesives. use one made for vinyl tops, if you want it to last.

This is what I hear from many of the Pro's:
"Dap (Weldwood) spray grade Landau Top adhesive. Do not be tempted to use anything from a rattle can."
It is for high temperature (as in a roof) use. Shipping is expensive because it is considered hazardous. They recommend finding a local top shop.

3m super trim adhesive. part # 08090. i have used this to install new vinyl tops years ago that still look good. comes in a large spray can. takes 4 to 5 cans to do an average top. if you follow the instructions, it will not come loose.

X100%...been using it for close to 30 years installing vinyl tops, or any interior applications needing a good long lasting adhesive, on my cars or customers, never had a problem other than a can clogging,...so buy extra, you can always return the unused stuff, better than getting caught short during an application,....the only time I see people have a problem with the 3M spray is due to inexperience...

Thanks everyone, I remember using the 3M super trim adhesive when I did my wifes challenger around 02 and it worked great
when I did the padded cover on my Squattie truck I had issues with it not holding around the edges but I am not sure if it was 3M adhesive I used, I bought it from the place I bought thew vinal from,
I'll make sure we get the 3M stuff
Thanks again for all the info Ron...

yet another. One other tip: Ask your supplier if you can return unused cans. If they allow it, get an extra or two. Murphy says one will clog on you. Mine went on with no problem and the parts place took the unused cans back. I know that if I did not have those insurance cans, it would not have gone as smoothly. My Cuda only needed three cans. I also had three helpers to unfold the vinyl going on.

Years ago I used to occasionally help a top installer. He swore by Formica Brand countertop cement and he sprayed it out of an old cheap siphon feed gun. He never cleaned the gun either, just run a little thinner thru it. You couldn't pull the tops loose either.

I've also used the 3M Super Duty aerosol without any problems.

yes please use the weldwood landau top adhesive. it comes in a liquid. i bought a cheap 15.00 paint spray gun from harbor freight. figuring i could throw it out after using it. it worked great. i,ve never installed one previously, but i always got compliments at car shows how nice the top looked. dont use anything out of a spray can. it will lift and bubble and ruin your top.
